Teachers want to unlock extra energy?

We all know how it feels to get to Monday morning and wish the weekend was an extra day longer. As teachers there is always more to do and unexpected extra tasks that can crop up on a daily basis.

When we feel tired, sluggish and overwhelmed it can feel like an uphill struggle to get everything done and to enjoy this amazing career you have worked so hard to get to.

We are here to help!

Over the next few months I am going to share with you some super easy recipes packed full of goodness to boost energy, patience and mental clarity!

At this moment in time it is very normal to follow a paleo/ vegan/ gluten free/ sugar free/ macrobiotic diet/ raw food diet etc. all of these get fantastic results for the devotees of these ways of eating and it’s interesting to note is that all of these different ways of eating work for different people. The big thing they all have in common is the reduction of processed food and the inclusion of more whole foods.

Whole foods are simply foods that you buy without being tampered and refined by man, like fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans and legumes, meats and raw dairy products.

If you are struggling to know where to start or which diet is right for you I am here to help you find what suits you so that you too can enjoy feeling the bliss of an energised body.

Over the next few months and years we want you to find what suits you! I’ll share with you information for you to decide what your body may need, then try it for a few weeks and notice the difference, if you feel better for the change you can keep it and make it part of your lifestyle.

When we look at health there are so many factors to take into consideration, in my opinion mindset/ stress levels (and what we do to keep them in check), nutrition and exercise are 3 that we can start working with straight away. And simply by starting with just one of these can change how you feel and experience life almost immediately!

Think about how you feel after you’ve over eaten

How slow and sluggish you feel and possibly how uncomfortable you might feel moving after a huge meal, when we eat really nourishing food we can feel lighter, cleaner, clearer mentally, more upbeat, happier, more optimistic and more motivated and committed to stick to our goals.

Now I want you to think of how you feel anticipating a holiday you are excited to go on, like nothing could get you down, nothing could hold you back, like the world is your oyster and that life is good, no life is great, no that life is amazing!! Verses feeling over worked and over stressed. By starting to take a few simple steps that you enjoy like meditation, or yoga or exercise or a hobby or taking a long bath, something that gets you to start relaxing and  unwinding we can feel more like the holiday versions of ourselves, more excited for life and open to opportunity!

And when it comes to exercise and movement, one of my biggest passions! To experience the joy of moving in ways that feel good to you, that relieves you of aches and pains, empowers you by doing something you were unable to do last week, now that is magic!

Unlike most personal trainers I have a much more gentle approach to exercise. I’ve seen time and time again if you go too hard to quick it is unattainable and is the first thing in a busy schedule to get the flick. By starting with some bite-sized chunks of movement you can very quickly see and feel amazing results.

This is all about creating a lifestyle that you fall in love with

that helps you feel more whole and more like the person you know you really are and I am very excited to start this journey with you!

Now I will not push a certain diet on you, I will simply offer you ideas to try and I encourage you to put on your lab coat and become a curious scientist when it comes to finding what works for you.

So lets being experiment number one… The Extra Energy Green Smoothie

We can all agree that vegetables are good for us and I’m sure we could all agree we could probably benefit from eating some extra plants, they are high in micronutrients in the form of vitamins and minerals, high in water content to keep us hydrated and high in fibre to help keep our digestive systems moving along!

When I was 21 I got really sick and found a nutritionist to help with my awful symptoms that the medical system was unable to find a cure for.

With a huge shift in my eating, cutting out all refined foods, gluten dairy and sugar and taking a specific supplement program for me, my body started feeling better within a week (after the withdrawals wore off)

One of my many issues at the time was that I was very anaemic, I was eating tons of greens and couldn’t force another salad down, so I decided to start blending my spinach with apple juice to see if that helped, within two weeks I had everyone asking if I’d been on holiday – my skin was glowing and I looked younger, I had a tan despite it being the middle of winter and I felt incredible. When I next went to donate blood, something that had always been a slow slog, I gave blood in record time and felt great afterwards too! I was sold!

Over the past 12 years, I’ve nearly had a green smoothie or juice every day and helped my friends, family and clients add in this super easy and delicious extra nourishing boost into their daily lives. Both of my grandmothers took up green smoothies, helping with diabetes and IBS, my grandad swears by them and has more energy now than he did in his twenties and takes them with him to golf for him and his friends. My sister, transformed her daily diet by starting with a green smoothie every day, this actually helped her pallet adapt and now she eats loads of vegetables and looks and feels amazing for the shift from fast food to whole foods.

So let’s start to sneak more veggies into your diet too!

  • 2 big handfuls of baby spinach (high in iron and great for skin)
  • 1 stalk of celery chopped (helps digestion, is said to support adrenal glands, anti-inflammatory, alkalising and full of anti-oxidants)
  • 1/4 lemon, skin cut off (helps absorb iron from the spinach, helps support the liver, alkalising, promotes hydration, great source of vitamin c and freshens breath)
  • water (lubricates joints, helps reduce physical pain, helps kidney function, vital for skin and digestion and the bodies natural daily detoxification, needed for the brain, spinal cord and all body tissues)
  • 1 banana (full of antioxidants, is said to support adrenal glands, packed full of vitamins and minerals)
  • 1/4 avocado (a source of good fats that help keep our joints and heart-healthy, like all the other ingredients a great source of fibre and is said to kelp keep the reproductive system happy)

simply pop all into a high powered blender and blend for 1 minute.

You can pour into a bottle or jar and take with you on the go or sit down and enjoy it fresh first thing.

Please let me know how you get on with this amazing recipe and if there’s an ingredient you dislike please feel free to swap it for something else you enjoy.

The key to sticking to eating well is to make food taste delicious! The better it tastes the easier it is to keep eating/ drinking it!

Have a wonderful day gorgeous people and know that you make a difference in this world!
